Big Al (derived)

The Alguin was a fan-dubbed name and icon invented by western fans that is linked with Vocaloid Big-Al's design, in Japan it is referred to simply as the "Big Al Penguin."  Its basis is the same as Tako Luka's. However, its exact appearance varies per interpretation and artist. That basis of the Penguin is always based on the original from the video "Born Again". [1]

Design[]

Alguins are parodied as penguins, having black and white bodies with a touch of red someplace on its body. It appears common to see the Fiordland Penguin as base design for an Alguin.

Biography[]

It comes from the Japanese fandom who commented that Al looked like a crested penguin (specifically the Western Rock Hopper penguin, due to it having links to music already). Its design basis is from the "Born Again" video. The western fandom dubbed it "Alguin". Over time various reappearances of the Alguin and references to penguins were used, however none stuck.

2011 Protests[]

Due to a mishandling on PowerFX's part, fans protested over what appeared to be a redesign of the PowerFX Vocaloids. The Alguin was used for protests over the redesign because of this. It produced the largest use of the Alguin. See First design and alternative design.
